Beach Wedding Dresses UK The world lost a fashion legend Oscar de la Renta's death shocked the world in October. The designer had succumbed to cancer, which he had been battling intermittently since 2006. "He died exactly as he lived: with tremendous grace, great dignity and very much on his own terms. While our hearts are broken by the idea of life without Oscar, he is still very much with us. Oscar's hard work, his intelligence and his love of life are at the heart of our company," said the touching tribute released by his family . "Beach Wedding Dresses UK All that we have done, and all that we will do, is informed by his values and his spirit. Through Oscar's example we know the way forward. We will make Oscar very proud of us by continuing in an even stronger way the work that Oscar loved so much." Just six days before his death de la Renta had announced his successor, British designer Peter Copping. Not only did she win an Oscar for her role in 12 Years A Slave, but she also scored a contract with Lancôme, starred in a campaign for Miu Miu and won over the entire fashion world with her style. Her playful take on red carpet dressing made awards season a delight - and won her stylist, Micaela Erlanger, a third-place slot on The Hollywood Reporter's 25 Most Power Stylists 2014 list. Her stylish few months climaxed at the Acadmeny Awards, where she wore a beautiful sky blue Prada gown inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, Champagne bubbles and her Kenyan heritage. Following her split from husband Orlando Bloom in late 2013, model Miranda Kerr seemingly made it her mission to grab as many headlines as possible by being at the centre of the world's first love pentagon, nay hexagon. She was said to be seeing Australian billionaire James Packer, whose ex-wife Erica was spotted on holiday with Bloom in July. At the same time, Bloom was involved in a very public altercation with Justin Bieber at an Ibiza restaurant after the pop squirt allegedly made a smutty remark about Kerr, whom he was rumoured to have a had a fling with following the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2012 (when Bloom and Kerr were still married). To add further confusion, Bloom had also recently been spotted out with Beiber's on-off girlfriend Selena Gomez. Phew. Now go and have a lie down. The autumn/winter 2014 collection was a resounding success, and one particular little bag won the storied brand a whole new legion of fans - meet the Petite-Malle... The 19-year-old Kardashian clan member made her high-fashion modelling debut in February as she walked the runway for Marc Jacobs, wearing a see-through top no less, and since then her career has sky-rocketed. From walking in Chanel shows to becoming Beach Wedding Dresses UK the face of Estée Lauder and Givenchy, and best buds with Cara, there's been no stopping Kendall. IN PICTURES: The fashionable rise of Kendall Jenner Kendall Jenner. Photo: Kendall Jenner/Instagram We went wild with wedding fever Not since that 2011 wedding had we been so giddy with wedding fever. 2014 was the year of the super fashionable wedding. Poppy Delevingne kicked it off with a spectacular London wedding, to which she wore Chanel Haute Couture. She then held an extravagant blessing ceremony in Marrakech, to which she wore The Most Beautiful Dress Ever Created™, by Pucci's Peter Dundas. Kim Kardashian was next up, tying the knot with Kanye West in a sumptuous Italian wedding, for which the entire wedding party was outfitted by Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci. Then Olivia Palermo, who quietly wed long-time partner Johannes Huebl in a private Bedford, New York ceremony. The style maven took an original approach to bridalwear, sporting a pair of cream shorts with a full tulle skirt overlay that "cinched at the waist in layers of satin and silk and featured a high slit in the front with floral details along the hem", both by Carolina Herrera, paired with a plain cream cashmere sweater. Angelina Jolie followed Palermo's lead in the unusual bridalwear stakes when she married Brad Pitt, opting for a traditional gown created by Versace's Haute Couture master Luigi Massi, paired with a cathedral-length veil embroidered with doodles drawn by her six children. Then there was Amal Alamuddin, the British barrister who won George Clooney's heart and wore some fantastic clothes in the process - from her made-to-measure Oscar de la Renta wedding gown to her Giambattista Valli Haute Couture post-wedding brunch dress and the bespoke Stella McCartney trouser suit she wore for the civil ceremony. Finally, we can't forget Solange Knowles, whose cream-themed wedding saw her wear no less than four spectacular outfits. IN PICTURES: The most stylish brides of 2014 John Galliano came back into fashion Three and a half years after that drunken incident, John Galliano found himself a very high-profile new fashion job - as creative director of Maison Martin Margiela. "John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time - a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion," said Renzo Russo, owner of Margiela, when the appointment was announced in October. He will show his debut Margiela collection in London in January - though we have already seen a preview; he dressed Anna Wintour in a Margiela design for the British Fashion Awards on December 1. Photo: Rex Pharrell's hat became more famous than Pharrell Pharrell Williams' oversized Vivienne Westwood 'Mountain' hat became as ubiquitous as his Oscar-nominated hit 'Happy'. The chapeau first appeared on his bonce in January at the Grammys, sparking a raft of memes and its own Twitter account. The 41-year-old then kept the momentum going by wearing it in a rainbow of colours at various events, before hitting peak fame at the Oscars, where it was the star of the show. Photo: Getty Kate Moss turned 40 with a bang (and a boob) The Peter Pan of the fashion world hit the 40 milestone, but proved she's every bit as in demand now as she was 25 years ago. Mossy celebrated her big birthday with a star-studded party at The Dorchester on January 16, but made sure the celebrations kept going throughout the year by launching a Champagne coupe moulded from her left breast in October, Yes, really. In the interim she was also unveiled as the face of Burberry's My Burberry fragrance alongside Cara Delevingne, and launched a comeback collection for Topshop following a four-year hiatus. She's still got it. Kate Moss clutching her mammary-moulded champagne coupes. Photo: @suzymenkesvogue/Instagram Fashion got fugly From Birkenstocks to culottes and the advent of 'normcore', 2014 was a fugly one for fashion. Barely a week passed without a formerly uncool trend suddenly becoming cool. Othopaedic sandals? Check. Dad-style fleeces and waterproof coats? Yep. Child-like dungarees? Here. Mum jeans? Here, Miss. Unflattering culottes? Present. Admittedly, some won us over - cough... Birkenstocks h... culottes h - but others, we feel, should have remained where they were - languishing in fashion hell. Birkenstocks, 'Normcore', dungarees and culottes all made it big in 2014. Photos: Elizabeth Khan-Greig/PA Alexander Wang took over H&M Alexander Wang brought his sporty-chic cool to the masses with his H&M collaboation. Months of teasing from the Swedish retailer finally ended on November 6 when the collaboration went on sale. The biggest surprise? That footballer Andy Carroll was selected as one of the model faces of the range. FULL STORY: Everything you need to know about Alexander Wang for H&M Kim and Kanye caused a kerfuffle with their Vogue cover (and ko-ordinating kleavage) March saw the release of a very kontroversial kover, US Vogue starring Kanye West and then-bride-to-be Kim Kardashian. Some loved it, but most hated it - many even saying they would stop buying the mag in protest. Boo. The issue did fail to meet the expected sales targets, but Anna Wintour maintained that the reality star was a wise choice. "Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world's spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that," she reasoned. The couple continued a fashion-heavy year with a trip to October's Paris Fashion Week, where they sported some very impressive matching kleavage. FULL STORY: Kim Kardashian gets her Vogue cover Kim and Kanye on Vogue, and at Paris Fashion Week. Photos: Vogue/Getty A new Moss arrived in town As Mossy turned 40, her little sister made her first steps to becoming a model herself. Lottie Moss, who shares a dad with Kate, was signed to Storm Models on her 16th birthday, the very same agency that spotted her big sister aged just 14. Work for Calvin Klein and Valentino soon followed, as well as a few FROW appearances. But at just 5ft 5", it's unlikely we'll see Lottie on the catwalk any time soon. FULL STORY: Lottie Moss signed by Storm Models Lottie Moss models for Calvin Klein The Apple Watch got a very fashionable welcome The Apple Watch was finally unveiled, with fashion editors - including our very own Lisa Armstrong - getting the first look as the tech company aimed to woo the style setters. Just a month after its much-hyped introduction, the accessory made it on to the cover of Vogue China, worn by model Liu Wen - despite the fact it won't actually be available for purchase until sometime next year. FULL STORY: Apple Watch - the fashion verdict Liu Wen wears the Apple Watch on the cover of Vogue China's November 2014 issue Audrey Hepburn's granddaughter stepped out of the shadows Emma Ferrer, Audrey Hepburn's only grandaughter, made her modelling debut on the pages of US Harper's Bazaar - and the world went crazy for her. The 20-year-old art student posed for Michael Avedon, the grandson of Richard Avedon, who famously photographed Hepburn throughout her career. Appearances on the front row at Paris Fashion Week followed, and then she was signed by Storm Models, the same agency behind Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne and Cindy Crawford, meaning we expect to see a lot more of her pretty face in 2015. Photo: Michael Avedon Rihanna's crystal-covered RiRi's won a CFDA Award It was ironic really that Rihanna turned up the the CFDA Awards to collect the Fashion Icon Award wearing 216,000 Swarovski crystals and not a lot else. The popstar successfully stole the show in the custom-designed fishnet creation by Adam Selman, her long-time friend an personal costumier. "Even as a child I remember thinking, 'She can beat me, but she cannot beat my outfit'," said the singer in her acceptance speech. "And to this day I mean, that is how I think about it. I can compensate for all my weaknesses with my fashion." And compensate she really, really did. Photo: AFP Anna Wintour became an actual Ice (bucket) Queen It's not often you see Anna Wintour take a bucket of icy water over the head. In fact, we had never seen that until this year. It was all thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Macmillan Cancer Support, which meant a load of fashion's finest shed their sophisticated facades and looked like a bunch of freezing cold plonkers. Our fave? Donatella Versace. FULL STORY: Fashion's finest take the Ice Bucket Challenge Cate Blanchett looked a million dollars - literally Scooping the Best Actress award at this year's Oscars for her role in Blue Jasmine, Cate Blanchett quite rightly dressed the part - to the tune of $18.1 million (approx £10.9 million). The lion's share of the huge sum was down to her accessories. Her nude, crystal-embellished couture Armani gown took up just $100,000 (approx £60,000) of the eye-watering price tag. The other $18 million was afforded to her Chopard jewels: earrings of 62 opals with a combined 33 carats, a brown diamond bracelet and pear-shaped diamond ring. Now that's what we call red carpet dressing. FULL STORY: Cate Blanchett's £11 million Oscars outfit Cate Blanchett. Photo: Rex Jeremy Scott put the fun back into fashion at Moschino Jeremy Scott made his debut as creative director of Moschino in February - and boy did he make a statement. The designer ushered in a new era for the Italian label with a MacDonald's and Spongebob Square Pants-themed collection. He followed it up in September with a Barbie-themed one. Some laughed, some scoffed - but it made us realise that fashion needed a little bit of fun. Moschino's Barbie-themed SS15 collection, and MacDonald's-themed AW14 collection. Photos: Isidore Montag Versace resurrected that saftey pin dress 20 years after it first found fame on the body of Liz Hurley - and latterly Lady Gaga - the Versace safety pin dress made a comeback by way of sister line Versus' spring/summer 2015 collection. The brand unleashed two new versions of the iconic dress - which was first worn by Hurley on the red carpet alongside Hugh Grant in 1994 - during its presentation at New York Fashion Week in September. The Versus safety pin dresses. Photo: Isidore Montag Both were created by designer Anthony Vaccarello to appeal to starlets of the 21st Century - thus they were dramatically shorter than the original and available for instant purchase on the internet. Photo: Splash/ Rex Victoria Beckham cleared out her closet Remember when Victoria Beckham wasn't really, really, ridiculously stylish? In fact, she was positively unstylish before her current tenure as a critically acclaimed designer. Well, she remembers it too, and this year decided to make the most of her frock-horror past by auctioning it off for a good cause. The former Spice Girl gathered together over 600 items from her wardrobe and teamed up with The Outnet to raise money for chairty Mothers2Mothers. In fact it was a bumper year for VB's do-gooder tendencies; she was also announced as a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador, giving a heartfelt speech at the UN in New York. Bravo, VB. Bravo! "We were certain! We are honest people!" tweeted Gabbana following the verdict, given on October 24. But thankfully, this year has bought some good news to the Somerset-based brand - finally they have a new creative director, and a very promising one at that. Meet Johnny Coca, the former helmsman of Céline's lustworthy accessories, and the man behind some of the biggest trends of the last four years. That means we have very high hopes for the all-new Mulberry, preparing to spring to life in 2015.
